Want to move up in the business world? Dress for the job you want, not the job you have. Remember, you are your own brand! Here are some helpful reminders from author Carmen Gallo:
1) Always try to look a little better than everyone else. Dress a little sharper, add a little detail, pay attention to details.
2) Make sure your clothes fit correctly.
3) Flatter yourself with colors that are flattering on you.
4) Pay attention to your shoes. Bad shoes can often ruin a put together look. Wearing worn shoes can give the impression that details aren't important to you.
5) Buy quality clothes. You may pay a little more upfront, but in the long run, you'll pay less because the clothes will wear longer without looking worn.
6) Watch out for distractions. Accessories are supposed to complement an outfit, not over power it.
7) Dress for the culture. If you are working in an inudustry that is cutting edge and daring, you can get away with different clothes than if you were working in a bank.
8) Get a decent picture taken of yourself.
