If you are a Milwaukee employer, get ready. In November, a sick-leave ordinance was passed and could force city of Milwaukee employers to review and change their benefit plans. On December 22, the MMAC filed a lawsuit against the city, stating that the ordinance "interferes with employers’ rights to negotiate labor agreements with their employees and is an illegal extension of the City of Milwaukee’s authority into areas of law and regulation reserved to the state.” Of course, if this lawsuit fails, city employers will need to comply in February of this year.
