Each year, Allstate releases results from their annual “Retirement Reality Check” survey. The results were very interesting. Seventy-one percent of the Baby Boomers surveyed said that they would continue to work in some capacity during their golden years. About 59% of Boomers said that they do not see retirement as “an escape” from their jobs. Over 60% said that they enjoy the social interaction within the workplace and 57% said that they simply enjoy their work. At the same time, 47% surveyed said that they would continue to work because they need the money. As our demographic trends continue to scare employers, make sure you don’t overlook the “retired” community to fill your open jobs. Not only does this segment of our population bring an enormous amount of experience, many of them work because they want to…not because they have to. Many already receive Social Security or a pension and are able to be extremely flexible when it comes to wages and hours. Contact your local AARP office or look at your own database and tap into some of your own retirees! Source: Allstate, August 28, 2002
