Grooming for the Job Interview
One of the most important ways to make a great first impression is to be dressed and groomed properly for the job interview. Appropriate attire varies depending on the job, but there are some guidelines that apply to everyone. Employers will not only judge you based on your skills and experience, but also on the way you present yourself.
  • If employees wear dresses and suits to work, then you should follow the lead. Your Career Consultant will be able to tell you what they wear to work, so you can plan your interview attire accordingly.
  • Hair should be clean and neat. Facial hair is best freshly trimmed or clean-shaven.
  • Fresh breath and clean teeth are essential.
  • Face, hands and fingernails should be clean.

Since these are general guidelines about grooming and first impressions, it is always beneficial to ask your Career Consultant about the specifics for the company where you are going to interview. Think of grooming as presenting the best version of yourself, and you will do great!
Common Interview Questions to Prepare For
Interviewers are not looking for one answer that determines if you are right for the job. They ask open-ended questions to get to know your personality, experience and skills. The most important tip for preparing for an interview is to be honest. If you are truthful in your answers and have thought some of these common questions through beforehand, you should have no problem getting that job! Here are some common interview questions to be prepared for:
  1. Why do you want this job?
  2. Why should we hire you?
  3. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
  4. Where do you see yourself in five years?
  5. Tell us about a challenge you faced at work and how you overcame it.
  6. Why are you looking for a new position?
  7. Why is there a gap in your employment?
  8. How do you deal with stressful situations and pressure at work?
  9. What do you like to do outside of work?
  10. Do you have any questions for us?

Like we said above, there isn’t one correct answer for these questions. However, we do suggest that you always have some questions for the interviewer. Asking questions shows interest, which employers appreciate. In addition, it is always helpful to have a practice interview with someone you know! Practice responding to the common interview questions so you feel at ease in the real interview.
